Dilution Control Systems Encourage Safety
Before dilution control systems came on the scene, mixing the chemicals used to clean facilities was a dangerous task. The “glug-glug” method of measuring involved pouring into a measuring cup and hoping you come close to the mark; or making an educated guess as to the correct amount of chemical to use based on “experience”. It was decidedly unscientific and could lead to using too little of the chemical, which resulted in sub-par cleaning. Or, too much chemical was poured, which could damage the surfaces.
Say, for example, an employee added too much burnishing chemical to their mop water. After they mopped using the over-treated solution, the floor became far too slippery. As any facility manager knows, a slippery floor is a lawsuit waiting to happen. The client would call to complain the next day, and you could potentially lose business.
Another potential safety issue occurs when cleaners pour chemicals from the large gallon container into a measuring cup as mentioned above. This un-contained pour puts them at risk for the chemicals to splash up into their face.
Dilution Control Systems are Cost Effective
Chemicals are expensive, and a dilution control system ensures that they’re used only in the amount that’s appropriate. When forced to eyeball the amount, most cleaners are unable to accurately dispense the cleaning fluid, resulting in waste.
There are ready-to-use (RTU) chemicals available, but they’re far more expensive to use in a large facility. It’s significantly cheaper to purchase the concentrated chemical and dilute it onsite.
Types of Dilution Control Systems
There are three varieties of dilution control systems, so you can choose the one that’s best for your facility.
- Wall Mount System— This is the most frequently used method of dilution. The wall-mount system offers the flexibility to decide which products should be stocked in the system and the ability to switch them as needed. It’s easy to use and gives cleaners the option of filling a bucket or a bottle with only the push of a button.
- RTD (Ready to Dispense) System— This option fills bottles, buckets, and auto scrubbers with a carefully diluted chemical mixture. It’s ideal for a light-weight, handheld work, giving the user the flexibility and mobility required to clean hard-to-reach areas. These systems require very little training and typically feature easily understood icons on their labels.
- Portable System— Smaller sites, such as day cares, restaurants, or small businesses could benefit from a portable dilution control system. It’s smaller, so it won’t take up as much space as the other options, but it still effectively dilutes the chemicals safely and efficiently.
